Automatic screen print color separation for Affinity · Dyneverse

1. Install

  1. Quit Affinity (⌘Q).
  2. Double-click DYNEVERSE-Setup.pkg. If macOS blocks it: System Settings › Privacy & Security → scroll down → Open Anyway.
  3. When asked "DYNEVERSE would like to access files in your Desktop folder", click Allow / OK. DYNEVERSE uses Desktop/DYNEVERSE to exchange data with Affinity and to save films.

2. Activate

Without a license you can separate and preview for free; Apply to Affinity and film need a license.
Buy from VTone: click Get License Key, pay in your browser, then come back — VTone activates by itself and installs the full version (click Install when macOS asks).
Have a purchase code? Open the VTone — License window (double-click DYNEVERSE in Applications), paste the code (DY-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) and click Activate. Activating needs internet once. One code works on 2 Macs.

3. Set up Affinity (one time)

  1. Affinity › Settings › Scripting: make sure Enable scripting is on, turn on Access the file system, then under File System access click Add and choose your Desktop folder.
  2. In the VTone window click Copy script. In Affinity open Window › Scripting › Scripts, click New Script in the Script Editor, press ⌘V, then Save As… and name it VTone. (The script file is also at /Users/Shared/DYNEVERSE/VTone.js.)

4. Use

  1. Select an image layer (right-click → Rasterise if needed).
  2. In Window › Scripting › Scripts, run VTone. The VTone window opens.
  3. Pick the shirt color, print width, max inks and LPI, then click Separate colors. Zoom and pan the preview to inspect the halftone dots, toggle layers to check each screen, and switch the fabric color at the bottom.
  4. Click Apply to Affinity. A group VTone … DPI … LPI with one layer per ink appears exactly over your image.
  5. 1-bit film TIFFs (with registration marks) are saved in Desktop/DYNEVERSE/Film when that option is on.

Troubleshooting

"The DYNEVERSE app is not responding" — open /Applications/DYNEVERSE.app once, then run the script again. Or log out and back in.
"The VTone script is not allowed to access files" — turn on Access the file system and add your Desktop folder in Settings › Scripting.
No Desktop permission prompt / VTone cannot read files — System Settings › Privacy & Security › Files and Folders → VTone → turn on Desktop Folder.
